Reception enjoyed taking part in British Science Week last week by trying out some experiments.

We watched dancing raisins, explored surface tension with milk and soap and made a lava lamp using oil and fizzy vitamins.

We also looked at colour mixing using food colouring and had a race to see whether hot or cold water took the colour out of Skittles the fastest (then we ate them!)

Our favourite experiment involved putting a glass over a burning candle in a saucer of water.

As the candle burns out, the air pressure in the glass falls and draws the water up into the glass, holding it there until the glass is picked up – very cool!
